Who was Khai Dinh? And Life of Khai Dinh King

Khai Dinh was the 12th emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty in Vietnam. He reigned from 1916 to 1925. He is remembered as a progressive ruler who modernized the country’s infrastructure, introduced a new legal code, and opened new schools.
However, his reign was also marked by increasing control over the people and severe taxation. He was known for his extravagance, particularly with regard to his lavish tomb, which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country today. He was disliked by many of the people for his autocratic rule and lack of concern for the people.

2. Building the Tomb

a. How Khai Dinh Tomb was built:
The Tomb of Khai Dinh was built between 1920–1931 and was the last of the Nguyen Dynasty tombs. The tomb was built by several hundred artisans and engineers, many of whom were brought in from Hanoi, Hue, and Saigon. The construction process began with the excavation of a huge terrace and a vast underground palace. The palace was built with a complex network of walls, and the whole structure was covered with a mound of earth and rock. On top of the mound, a large temple was constructed and surrounded by a wall of stone.
